Shooting modes: Which one for which?

Okay, so I am trying to be the jack of all trades. I want to shoot anything I can.

Here is what I already/want to shoot (with my soon to come HVX)

1.)Real Estate Video Tours
2.)Interviews
3.)Extreme Sports, i.e. motorcross, skateboarding, football. Somemight be in slow-mo, but I can change when needed.

So again what mode, and settings would ya'll recommend.

Also I'm trying to find a tripod for under $500.00, I want the best, but who doesn't. Last thing, What do you use to white balance with. (card, expoDisc, paper etc..)

for me personally, I'd shoot everything in 720pn... i feel like I'm not using the cam to its potential when I shoot anything sub to that...

I am assuming that is not the highest setting being that we can do 1080p/24pn right? And I am assuming that that is what everyone talks about with only being able to get 4mins on a 4gb P2 card??? If so how much footage will I get on my 4gb P2 card at 720p/24pn? How do you do storage? I have a 250gig Maxtor external HDD that I have lying Around can this be used, I have a PowerMac so I cant travel with it and dont want to buy a laptop at this current time.

actually the cam only goes up to 1080i. For storage use a P2 store. they are pricey but hold up to 60 gigs. It takes the same type of battery as the camera and is light to carry around. Then when you are done for the day, transfer the P2 store to your 250gig hard drive. Im not sure how much time a 4gig p2 card has at 720p. I use 8 gigs.

I would shoot the first two at 720p. I would shoot the sports at 1080 60i Now that being said. If you want to do slow motion by all means use 720p it looks awesome

Someone needs to help me on this one. I'm only aware of two options in HD. One is 720P (progressive) and 1080 I (interlaced). What am I missing here?????
