Shooting in snow

This winter I plan on taking the DVX up on the slopes to shoot my friends skiing/snowboarding. I was wondering if anyone has shot while skiing/snowboarding before and what I need to worry about.

Keeping snow off of it is my main concern but I don't really know what else I should worry about.

I have yet to use my DVX in very cold weather, but previously I had shot a great deal of stuff with my vx2100 in the middle of December when it was freezing and the problem I had was with the tapes. I think the cold may have screwed them up somehow because almost a full tape was lost. I tried keeping my camera warm with a thick towel wrapped around it, though I imagine one of those waterproof bags would be much better.

Cold weather decreases battery life.

Cold may make tape more brittle -- especially cheap tape.

You're probably going to have some serious bright spots with all that snow -- watch your zebras.

I'd make sure you use some kind of screw on filter to protect your lens. Better to clean a UV filter than your stock lens. As a snowboarder I know we can kick up lots of snow. You don't want that getting in your lens.

Bring a bunch of batteries (David is right on the money).

ND is your friend.

You might want to grab one of these:

The Polar Mitten by Porta Brace. It keeps your camera warm using little heat packs.

Three absolute essentials-

1) Water casing (or snow mitten preferebly)

2) Heat pads (for use inside to keep the camera warm)

3)ND's or a good circular polarizer.
