how are you doing friends
any one with experience in low light conditions at clubs shooting at 24 p, is the shutter speed ok at 1/60, what about the gain.
low gain will give really grainy footage am I right or wrong.
what about when shooting a monitor. what type of shutter speed to use.
please give some input Ideas and suggestions.

thank you.

more gain = more grain (or better, 'video noise')

clubs are usually extremely low light level. if that's the case, it's probably a bad idea shooting 24p since that makes the camera even less sensitive to light (about 1 stop i think). depending on what you have to do, you might want to get additional lighting (on camera lights or augment the existing ambient light in some way).

if you can't get additional light, go for the gain and / or slow shutters (if you have the dvx100A) if the effect is acceptable to you. shutter 'off'= 1/60

many threads about shooting a monitor. sync scan shutter is the key.

I agree with Baluardo, Turn your Shutter off, which by default is a 1/50th speed, and if you have a controled enviorment I suggest you should use lighting, and if that is so, start a new thread in lighting, "How to light a club for 24p?"

Depending on your application, 24p does steal a small amount of light, im not sure if it is a whole stop, I beleive it is what a bolex is to an arri-II with regards to stealing light, a little over a 1/3rd of a stop

If you are unable to be granted a controlled enviorment, I suggest you plead with the owner to let you rent out, so it can be controlled - When it comes to low lighting and DV, not a good idea, and I dont suggest you use the gain, I feel it cheapens the quality, with a grainy consumer type picture quality
