Shooting in 24fps and using HMI lighting

Hello all,

I'm shooting a short movie in a couple of weeks and it will be at night. I will be shooting in 24P on my DVX and using HMI 1200 watt lights to light the scene. I was told that because I'm recording at 24fps the lights may flicker...Is this true? The person who told me was not really sure of himself, he said I needed a non-flicker generator...Anyone with experience with these lights and the 24P mode?

Better safe than sorry...

Thanks,

Jeremy

From my understanding, using an HMI with a ballast (electronic - flicker free) shouldn't give you any problems. If using a genny make sure it is synched.

I am not 100% experienced in this so Ill let others chime in with detail

Even with magnetic ballasts, as long as you're shooting 24p and 1/48 shutter you won't get any flicker. Electronic ballasts should be flicker-free at all speeds.

But you do want a decent-quality generator with crystal-sync power.
