shooting film noir B&W question

can anyone confirm this? for b&w, is it high gamma that will yield better results, without noise? i was going to shoot with a master ped of -10 with gamma on low, but now i'm not so sure.

does anyone have an opinion on this?

A film noir look is a lot less likely to be a simple gamma setting, (like maybe 5%) and 95% lighting technique. Lots of fresnels, tight control on ambient, lots of edgelights. Hope you have a couple lighting trucks and the gris to go with them!
