Shooting Events Outdoors With Auto Iris On

Anyone, shooting events outdoors with the AF100 and 14-140mm Lumix on auto iris . When lighting conditions change and you need to keep rolling, iris changes are not seamless they seem to occur in steps. Has anyone tried the new X series Lumax lenses to see if they handle light changes better?

Auto iris even with broadcast lenses doesn't work very well. I suggest you get out of the habit in using it. The camera can only be so smart when in auto. If your subject is in less than perfect light and the background is brighter, you might be are willing to let it blow out a bit so the subject will look better. In auto iris it will usually iris down and adjust to the bight area.
Most duel purpose lenses are first for stills and second for video. It does get frustrating but we don't have a video first zoom lens yet made for the AF-100.

Erik,

I agree and rarely use auto iris or anything auto, but if it’s a live event, a Tennis Match for example and you cant stop rolling when the light changes it’s bad news. I’m hoping that the new X Series Lumix lenses may work better but so far I haven’t found anyone that has one even Barry Green.
