Shooting doc in both 24p and 30p?

Am an intermediate DVX100b user and am leaving for a 2 week doc shoot, very run and gun, etc.. combo of sit down interviews in the shade + hand-held broll shots on farms, in fields, w/ animals, etc... previously I've shot this type of gig in 24p standard and have just NOT been happy with the motion strobing from the hand-held shots.

For this trip I am thinking of shooting the interviews in 24p standard, and all the handheld in 30p for slightly smoother motion.

I assume I can edit both sets of footage seamlessly on a standard 29.97 timeline, correct?

Has anyone else done this? Thoughts?

This should be in the DVX section...
I've done it many times, you shouldn't have any problems mixing these frame rates in a 29.97 timeline. Every capable editor can handle this project, with the exception of Premiere Pro 1.5. PP1.5 has a problem with 24p in a 29.97 timeline.

My opinion, shoot everything 24p. Nothing beats the look of the DVX 24p, especially for documentary shooting. Set your shutter to 1/48, eliminate fast pans, keep the camera steady and smooth. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the input... and yes, I've tried 24p at 1/48 and when I'm shooting hand-held I just can't seem to get over the quality of the strobing and motion stutter... perhaps I'm just not a stable enough camera operator. I am shooting in very remote conditions in developing countries and so cannot justify a stabilizer... I am producing exclusively for the internet and DVD/tv...

One idea may be to also shoot at a higher shutter speed and actually exaggerate the motion... ala the Iraq Fragments doc. the trailer for that looked INCREDIBLE.

Clearly I need to experiment. Just curious what strategies handheld doc shooters have for reducing motion strobing.
