sorry i posted this in other hvx group i mad a mistake i only have a dvx ......

hello im kind of new here im writing to you from japan . i have a question to ask in february ill be shooting a music video for our record label it will be my first at shooting a music video .my question is at what fram rate should i shoot for the best film look and great picture becouse it will be on japan mtv and korea mtv im very sorry if this is a stupid question thank you for your time.

If NTSC, you can shoot 24p for the film look, but you will need to output to 29.97 for play of TV. Depending on which part of Korea you play it in, you might have to convert it to PAL. Correct me if I'm wrong, but North Korea is PAL, and south is NTSC.

Ultimately, I think if you shoot 24p and then edit in 29.97 you should be good. ANy other suggestions?

thanks for the reply .it will be NTSC and also i would never want to go to north korea they will kill me hehehe ..so if i shoot in 24p and edit in 29.97 can i out put it to 24p
for broadcasting .becouse im using sony vegas is it possible to edit in 24p also .and one more question i hope i dont bother you in the music video there will be about a 30 second clip that needs to be slowed down like in slow motion how would i go about doing that ...thanks again

huh????? what happend my pc locked up and then i see this many post im sorry i didnt do that many of the same post i only posted 1 back.....

I figured North Korea was out of the question. You'll want to output 29.97 NTSC, that's the only thing they can broadcast on standard def TV. That's why it's best to shoot in 24, and edit in 29.97. I guess you could just as easily edit in 24 and output 29.97, but that involves removing the pulldown on import and putting a pulldown back in on export. Seems like one too many steps to me.

ok i will do that way then .how about the music if i shoot in 24p and put the playback music with the edit and then edit the 24p to 29.97 will it still be synced with the music .thanks you are a very nice person for helping me

when you capture the footage from the dvx, and if you don't remove the pulldown, the music and picture will already be at 29.97, so I don't think you should have any problems. I guess it depends on how you are syncing up on location. If you are using a smart slate, run the 29.97 timecode through it, not 23.976 timecode. I think it should work that way, but you might want to get a second opinion.

some one chime in if I'm wrong, but 24p won't give you great slo-mo for the one shot you mentioned needing to slow down. You may want to shoot that particular shot in 30p or 60i. My experience is that 24 frames just isn't enough information to create smooth slow motion. Mixing the two shots together shouldn't be a problem if you're editing in a 29.97 timeline.

if in North Korea they actually have MTV, i would be curious to see what they broadcast :):)
