Shooting a music video...

I just did a 2 camera shoot for a music video with the musician being stationary in one location and so it was easy to synch up. I am just wondering... how do you synch up something more extravagant? Like say many different locations with the singer singing his song? Do you get a master audio of him singing and get them to re-sing it at every location and pray that they sing the vocals at the exact same moment each time so you can synch it up?

Normally you bring a mastered version of the song and have it play back and whether it be a band or a person they play off that track so normally you have to bring some pretty decent sound equipment out if you have a drummer. And by decent i mean not an ipod speaker system haha you'd need like a decent pa. when i shoot i bring out a pa and then make a click track for the song so i have a 4 count in and then i sync everything up on that. pretty simple. Makes one camera shoots with many takes and angles line up perfectly everytime.

Are you saying that you just have a master audio take and play it back in a cd player? I mean, that would work just fine, right? They can just lip synch to their own song, correct?

Don't lip sync. Have them singing along. More of a karaoke than lip syncing. A lot of times you can tell if someone is actually NOT singing the song.
