Shooting a flat image on a GH13

Hey guys. This is gonna seem to be a newb question ( it is) but I've seen in the forums on how if you want to color correct in post it best to to it with a image that's as flat as possible. I've read people go to the smooth film mode and just turn the settings to -2. I have my smooth settings to mimic the 7D ( got it from Ben's post from the Zacuto shoot out forum). My question is couldn't I just go to one of the my film settings and just punch the settings all down to -2 and have the same effect?

Thanks in advance.

try for yourself and find out? Id like to believe each setting has its own curves so one is deliberately more flat than the other and so in theory it will prove the same when you -2 on each setting, they won't be the same.

John, I looked for the post you referred to (Ben's) in the Zacuto forum but couldn't find it. Can you provide a link, I'd like to check that out.
Thanks!
