shooting 25p for a 23.98 timeline

I heard that for a 23.98 timeline in Europe is common to shot 25p and extract one frame in capture.

I would like to learn how this is done, which software and workflow? codecs?
How is the audio kept in sync?

We are planning to shoot with an HVX-200e (probably in 1080i/25p mode) to be finished in Avid or Final Cut Pro in a 24p timeline.

Distribution could be in 29.97 but the 24P look is desired, so instead of converting from 25 to 30, we are considering a 24p timeline.

Any input will be appreciated.

There is´nt such a thing like the extraction of a single frame when you reproduce a 25p footage on a 24p or a 23.98 timeline. Reproduction is just about 3% slower. The audio keeps perfectly in place it just will reproduce with some deeper frequencies. Normally you won´t see or hear any remarkable difference reproducing 24p footage in 25p or vice versa. Anyway, this has been commented here many times, search and find!

But converting 25p to 30p is a pain i.t.a. and is not recommendable.

Thanks

Thanks

Thanks Joe, I found lots of material about going from Pal to NTSC but not much about going to 24P.
It looks like the talents would have to work 3% faster..., just kidding.

I guess there will be some way to correct even this slight change in audio frequencies, is there?

Thanks a lot for the clarification.
