What happens if one shoots 24p - non progressive
I am shooting to be cut and mixed with beta and so
therefore am assuming that 24p is the correct way. The shoot is under lights and probably will not allow high apertures What shutter speed is recommended.. my settings at present are:
Detail level -3 Matrix Cine like
V Detail Thick
Chroma level -1 Progressice 24P
Chroma phase -2 shutterspeed 1/48
Colour temp 0
Master ped -6
A Iruis level -2
Gamma Cine like
Skin tone detail off

Re: .Shooting 24p norn

the dvx doesnt shoot 24p -non progressive- all 24p is progressive ..the "p" stands for progessive as diferred to "i" for interlaced. did you mean "non advanced"?
anyhoo assuming your at 0 ire those settings should work fine in a studio lit environment, but chroma phase is usually dead on at -4, and you may want to set you detail to thin.. if it flickers(which ive never had a problem with) then just add a slight blur in post. although the settings are a great start really you might have to experiment to find the best settings to match the betacam footage though. but these would be good settings for matching in post. if you wanted a bit more shadow detail yu could up your master ped a bit. and set it in post as well. get there early and do some testing to be sure youve got the look your going for with your settings. possibly bring some beta footage to match it to.

I'm going to assume as well that you meant "normal" instead of "non" progressive.

I'm currently editing a video from a two camera shoot, one being the DVX100, the other a BetaCam.

I had my detail settings at -4, and that was much to low for matching to the Beta. I would recommend something between -1 to +1. Keep the shutter at 1/48th or above, and follow the advice of the previous post regarding the Master ped. I would say somewhere around -4 to -2.

Otherwise, shoot lots of tests, preferably side by side with the Beta if that is possible.

Wow, completely blanked on the most important part....

During my shoot, I tested the DVX100 in all three modes (24p, 30p, and 60i). I found that 30P footage cut best with the Beta 60i stuff. It retains the film-like look, but isn't as jarring a transition as the 24p is. Unless you are looking for a dramatic, noticeable change in looks for artistic purposes, I would recommend shooting at 30P.
