Shooting 16:9 and anther topic backlight from windows.

So as some might know from my previous post, I have the HVX and am a major newb. :) I shoot RealEstate and I want to take advantage shooting in 16:9 mode. (Realtors like the look) I notice when I am shooting in Tape mode, that I dont get the 16:9 but rather 4:3. Also when I was test shooting to the P2 I noticeds again the same thing anything in 480i looses the 16:9 bars? Well I DONT have a laptop, and I have one 4gbP2, so I am trying to figure out my workload. How would you recommend?

Another issue, some properties are extremely dark, and to shoot I need to open open all the window blinds. Doing this the picture when panning and tilting darkens when it, of course, nears the window. Which I know most likely is the iris, counteracting. Now when I had my XL1s I know there was a feature to keep what ever light was in the room steady. ( I treid backlight but it did nothing )

Antoher issue. I noticed in Editing, FCP, EasySetup, There is not editing for 480i or DVCPRO for NTSC just for PAL. Or no modes for DVCPRO50 either. Also lets say "Like today I shot like 8 modes doing a test, when setting up my easysetup doI need to set up each for each clip? I.E. shot 1080i and then 710p and then 480i. Or can I just do easy setup> DVCPRO HD 1080i > Import P2 all clips?

Shooting to tape I also did not really notice much a differnce between modes, besides 60p being darker. But for what I am doing (RealEstate) What mode if I were using TAPE would you suggest.

I know a lot of queastions. and thank you for your kindness in Answering them
thanks

The HVX-200 is switchable between 16:9 and 4:3, since it seems that the footage is only coming out in 4:3, that most likely means that's the factory default. Somebody who actually owns the camera can tell you what menu to go into to switch to 16:9.

As for the light situation either turn off auto-iris or don't use the windows as lighting and bring in a few lights to light it.

Couldn't help you with FCP as I use Avid.

The only mode you can shoot to tape is MiniDV.

Hi SurJOnes,

i am not sure if i get all of your questions, but i dont think you "lose"16:9 in tape mode, also on p2 you just have to choose the right record option(16:9-squeeze!)which is not too hard to find(also the manual is worth it to "read".(i am sorry i cant tell you the right page right now, but i dont have it here in this moment)

Id definitly recconmend you to shoot in 16:9, if you do an sd project and you got a p2 card, shoot not on tape but dvcpro 50 on p2(aslo if it could be a little tricky with just one card, dont know what you wanna do, then you would have 2 find your workflow, filming, downloading to laptop-from cam or through a pcmcia port in your laptop..and so on..!)

I am not on mac, so cant help you there, but i am using edius on pc after we have done a doc in dvcpro 50-16:9 and the workflow is amazing, no file converting(like fcp) or any hazzle like that.

Found the Squeez option for tape. Also I will just shoot manual mode>AutoIris Off. guess I will just have re-white balance in every room :). thanks so far.

So DVCPRO50 is 480i, not true 16:9, cause you have to squeeze??

Could I shoot 720p/24pn to my P2 simultaneous while dubbing to DV? Here is my situation. I will shoot one room, will do multiple takes. and then dump to external HDD, and reformat P2 card, and shoot. So here is my question again when I reach the end of the P2 strorage limit and I hit the Stop record button, the DV stops as well. And when I dump the P2 on to the external HDD, reformat the P2 and start recording again simultaneous dubbing to DV, it records from the last point it stopped?

"squeeze" is the word they chose to name the 16:9 mode, and it's unfortunate because it's misleading. Squeeze mode = true native 16:9. It's what you want. I don't know why they called it "squeeze" on the HVX, it would have been much better to just call it "widescreen".

You cannot record to P2 and to DV tape at the same time.
