Shootin 4 channel audio and Edius

Apologies as this post covers several areas!

I have shot some footage with my HVX200 and an additional Audio Technica Shotgun mic plugged into Input 1. I selected CH 1 as Input 1 and CH2 as INT (R).

In P2 viewer it shows that there are 3 audio channels out of the 4 with information.

I'm scratching my head trying to understand how this works. Any explanation would be really appreciated.

In addition - I'm trying to get to grips with the way Edius handles the audio. I did a rough cut which has audio on 2 different tracks. But now I have gone back to it and when I try and add clips they only add 1 track of audio.

Again - any kind of explanation of how Edius handles the audio and what the correct settings for this kind of recording methid would be much appreciated.

Ok,

1st question: this is how the HVX works: if you ad an external micro, you will end up with 3 Audiotracks, so its done perfectly right.
If you use 2 external mics, you will end up with 4 tracks.

The HVX ALWAYS keeps recording from the internal mic, just shifting it to tracks 2/3 or 3/4.
You simply cant control the level of the internal mics in that moment, but the workflow works fine...!

Edius is a great editing tool, but might take some time to understand: first you should read and learn something how edius processes the "channel mapping", which took me some time to understand it to be honest. (you can change it in the sequence setting or when you start a new project...!)
Then you have to know that Edius always has certain tracks selcted(thats why you can put a new clip only on track one), as long as you dont select this certain Track (or all of them by hitting "8"..).
Then you can place the clip where ever you like to..!

Check canopus.com, theres a very helpfull and powerfull forum...good luck!

Many thanks for that. Points me in the right direction.

I didn't realise that the HVX will always record from the internal mic in DVCPRO mode. And I hadn't discovered the channel mapping.

Things were so much easier in the days of DV...!

Cheers
