Hello,

One of my cameras went south so I borrowed a friends DVX100 for a shoot tonight, high school play, don't need 24p. I have never used one before and he lost his manual. He said to just put it in scene file 1 and everything will be automatic, however, I just noticed the gain does not work in scene file 1. If I switch to Spark Mode I can use the gain and reset settings in the menu to suit my needs.

What is scene file 1?
Am I alright customizing my settings in the Spark Mode so I can use gain?

Thank you,
Rick

You can customize anything that you want. However, the DVX has an "auto" button on the side... press that and absolutely every function will go to "automatic", which may be what you thought you were going to be able to do.

Thank you.

In the full auto mode is gain available? I know I'll have to gain up. I don't see anything happening when I use the gain switch!

What is Scene File 1 for?

Sorry, but I only have a few hours before I have to shoot with this camera.

Re: Shoot tonight - 1st time with DVX100

if thats a regular 100, there is no gain in the 24p mode, and standard scene file 1 is a 60i/30i scene file with no cine gamma or matrix. but the scene files are just memory slots for storing different setups, and someone could have it set up differently under scene file #1 so you can just go into the menu, and change the camera setup under scene file #1 to what you need it to do, and save your settings, but better yet, i would just reset the cam to factory settings through the menu.

also. the gain is always a manual adjustment.. auto only controls- iris, focus, white balance- in the non 24p modes on the original 100
