Shoot 4:3 or 16:9 anamorphic?

This is a novice question from a uhh.. novice. :) Do you know what the best mode is to shoot in when using the anamorphic adaptor? I mean, if it's in squeeze mode, will the image sort of double squeeze and wind up not 16x9, but true widescreen like 2:33? To get a normal 16x9 with an adaptor, do you just shoot in 4:3 mode? Thanks! :)

Don't shoot squeeze with the anamorphic.

Yes you would get something akin to 2:35.1, but you would hurt your otherwise increased resolution to do it and there's not a television or projector that could dispplay it properly.

for normal 16X9 widescreen, Shoot 4:3 mode with the anamorphic attached

... and if you want cinescope (2.35:1) then purchase aspect correct, or screen skins (both cheap laminates that go on your LCD masking out or aoutloining various aspect ratios) then in your NLE on your 16X9 timeline crop with a 2.35:1 mask. The movie will now automacally play on a DVD player the same way that hollywood DVD of Gladiator or Star Wars would , displaying small letterbox bands on a 16X9 (widescreen) monitor and with a larger letterbox bands on a 4:3 monitor.

I prefer to uprez using Photozoom pro to 16x9 from the 4x3 image and it comes out better than that anamorphic lens at about 1/4 the cost.
