Shoot 35 for AF-100

I have just received the full compliment of elements from shoot 35. After a couple of hours of tweaking, removing, adding and subtracting various elements I believe I have come up with a solution for the full kit. I have included a shot with the Cinebox, Cinefocus and R2 Support System all in place. I must say that the Cinebox is outstanding value for the money. We bought a Chrosziel clip-on mattebox last year for our HPX-300 and spent half what this entire rig cost and it doesn't hold a candle to it. I say job well done.

Looks good! I am interested after you have had a chance to use it, how you find the follow focus?
Cheers

I plan on taking it into town over the weekend and doing a few test runs. Although I will probably end up using my little Nikon 50 1.8 lens. I will shoot some stuff and if it's any good have my editor bang something together. I am not a DP or Cinematographer I am just the ops guy, however equipment decisions go thru me. I hope all the ones I have made in reference to this camera are sound.

Please tell me about the build and engineering quality of the Cinebox.
Shooter,

Let me first state that I am not our DP or Cinematographer. I am the Operations Manager. I work as a camera assist, assistant editor, digital media technician and ops guy. I am however the guy that reviews and acquires all the gear for our company. I have been in the business for about four years so my knowledge of equipment is limited. I have had the opportunity to work with our own HVX-200 and HPX-300 and both cameras had Chrosziel matteboxes. I found the fit and finish of both to be terrible. Trying to rotate a filter in the one on our 300 is a joke. The filter holders bind and don't actually rotate in anything resembling a circle. The box that hung on our 200 had this terrible vignette in one corner that had to do with screws inside the box being loose. I will say that for the money this thing is built like a tank. I like that the adapter rings have a small groove in them that is a slot for very small spring loaded ball bearings that are seated in the bellows. I can actually use the zoom on my 18-35mm Nikon without moving the box. Overall this stuff is beautifully made. I will be running out with our DP today to do some test shots. I will report back on the follow focus as well. I have never worked with one as most of our shooting is corporate/industrial work for NASA and is usually of the run and gun variety.

Hope this helps and as to the lens question it is the Nikon 18-35mm 3.5-5.6. Nothing special just something to try and use outdoors today. I plan on using my inexpensive 50mm 1.8 today as well. That obviously will require a slightly different arrangement as it is much smaller.

Hey adeath,

I love the look of the Shoot35 CineBox. I want to order one, but the order form is asking me to choose a "Lens Ring Attachement Size". The options are 58mm thread, 62mm, 67mm, 72mm, 77mm, or 82mm. Which size did you choose for your Nikon lens? I have Nikon AI primes.

I went with the 77mm ring. It made the most sense given the size of a couple of my lenses. When I put the 50mm lens on the camera it just pokes thru the mattebox. It doesn't even come close to filling the opening in the bellows. Just realize that the opening in the bellows is 80mm. You can order several rings depending on your application. My hope is to start acquiring some Zeiss glass in the near future. When and if that happens the zf.2's from duclos come with an adapter ring for 80mm. Hope that answers your questions. By the way I was out shooting over the weekend with the setup and really enjoyed it. I went to downtown Houston Saturday evening and just ran around Discovery Green and shot. I am going to try and edit together some of the clips this week. I really like the follow focus quite a bit. It makes trying to rack by hand a joke. I plan on ordering a few more flex gears from shoot35 so I can kit up the rest of my lenses.
