Shipping Camera?

I posted my Panasonic HMC150 on Craigslist and someone responded asking to purchase it out of state. They offered to pay via PayPal for the camera and shipping costs. When I charge them should I do the request money form on PayPal? They said they have a confirmed address on PayPal and I just don't want to get screwed out on money. I was thinking about shipping UPS because that's how I received the camera and it worked out pretty well. What are some must do steps before shipping out a video camera to someone?

I hate Cragislist. It's sketchy. But if you must:

Ship only to the confirmed address.

Use a shipping service that has tracking. I typically use FedEx Ground unless they need expedited shipping, because it is inexpensive and fairly speedy.

Include insurance in the shipping cost.

Require a signature for delivery (usually, anything above a certain monetary value will require this, but check to be sure).

Be diligent about communication; send an email to confirm shipping and provide a tracking number and then send an email when you see that it has been delivered to make sure.

It's all about providing as much detail as possible through email (save the emails!) and to let the buyer know that you're keeping close tabs on the process. It also encourages the buyer to acknowledge the details, and to keep tabs on it as well.

BEFORE the sale is finalized, specify some terms that include a window of time for problems to be reported (damage in shipping, etc.). Give them a few days to bring that to your attention, after which (specified in the terms), the sale is absolutely final. Also, if you're that concerned, document the packaging of the camera: take pictures/video of everything going into the box and the box being sealed. It may not mean much, but it can document the condition of the camera and its accessories as they are packaged.

Craigs list has very clear instructions on buying and selling. They dont advise anything but in person cash transactions. I wouldn't trust anyone on that site for any reason. Money talks bulls*%te walks. So if you decide not to follow their rules, and lose money on the deal, then you have no one to blame but yourself. I would think twice about your decision to sell in that fashion.

Not to mention, paypal is a pain in the ass to try and get money back from a bad transaction, they will do everything in their power to shift the blame on you. Plus it would take forever, so if you can afford to take those chance, by all means ship it off. Just dont:crybaby: if you get screwed.

i would hate to but do you think it would be better to tell the buyer to purchase via ebay? i hate that ebay has the 9% take on purchases but if its that sketchy to sell on craigslist, the 9% insurance maybe worth it to cover my ass if the sale goes bad

If you do go through paypal, wait for them to pay and once the money is in your paypal account transfer it to your bank account. Then once the money has cleared in your bank account, ship the camera. That way you know you're covered as far as payment goes.
