shipments pushed back to mid-January? true or false?

Hi All,
I was onto a reputable US authorized dealer today and this is a clip of what he replied to me about end of December shipments. Just wondering if it's true or not?

".... Panasonic has pushed their dates back to somewhere around mid-January for most distributors and resellers...."

That's not a change as the initial shipment is on manual distribution to the top dealers and the rest will be latter.

This seems to be the standard reply of dealers that can't sell you a camera in December because of the long waiting lists but don't want you poking around at other retailers. Point against anyone who is saying that.

Those who ordered early will get them early. If the dealer waited too long to place his/her order, well... they'll get 'em later. Big dealers like Abel, EVS, and Birns should all have some in December.

One of my local pro dealers says they don't think they can get any units until perhaps even March. Granted, this is a dealer that doesn't stock merchandise generally, they order what you need.

Depends on the backorder situation, that may actually turn out to be true. But like I say, the big dealers who placed the big orders will have stock first.

Will be sold eventually? No, as the first one isn't even in user hands yet. But if the backorder situation is anything to judge by, it looks like it shall be a very strong seller indeed.

Camcorder manufacturers don't, as a rule, hand out sales figures. Last time we speculated on DVX100 sales we ended up saying somewhere around 60,000 to 100,000. The HVX is everything the DVX was, plus a better DVX than the DVX is, plus it's DV50 and high-def. Marketplace acceptance remains to be seen, but it could easily do DVX-caliber numbers if it meets with the kind of acceptance the DVX did.
