Shipment Of Dvx With Fedex

Wasn't sure if to post this here or in marketplace.

Thought I'd pass on this information.

I purchased a new DVX on Friday from Rush, great guy, great service.

So my new camera is suppose to arrive on Wednesday.

Coming home from the supermarket while pulling into my driveway. Here comes a Fed Ex Ground truck.

I stop him and said according to my tracking number I could get my camera today because it was on a local truck. The driver told me they're a different company.

Said the normal Fex Ex guy usually comes later in my area. Then he said, well isn't that a package on your front door.

Sure enough there is my brand new baby, out for the whole world to see.

So here's the information to be passed on. I didn't know this. I've just moved here less than 6 months ago. Well the old owner of the house had a waiver put on the address so that they could just leave packages without anyone being there.

Called Fed Ex on it. That's how I learn of the above policy. The guy tells me well, he's sorry.

But look you got your camera. But he did say that the driver should have looked that it did say on the package signature required. Do not leave at door.

So, going down to the local office to have a little chat.

So just beware if you've just moved into a new house make sure there's no waiver on your house.

Good thing I didn't order the matte box, follow focus, etc. Could you imagine $7,500 of video equipment sitting on my door, and I'm not there, $3,500 was bad enough.

FYI Everyone--

FedEx also dropped automatic sig-req'd. on 3-Day Service. It's only "automatic" with Express or 2nd Day, but not Express Saver (3-day). UPS 3-Day still has sig req'd on 3-Day service.

Well, if shipment says sig required and it got stolen by being left, fedex would be liable. It is probably cheaper for them to leave stuff than to have drivers making multiple delivery attempts. Just say thank you for the early delivery and praise your neighbors for not being thieves.

Yes, but what if you lived in an apartment complex?

When I had the waiver listed off my house. They just gave me the typical big business run a round. First the guy at the Fed Ex location tried to claim that the box doesn't say it needs a signature.

Then he had to back track his story when I said the guy at 1-800-GOFEDEX, said that the tracking number did say it needed a signature.

To me their getting as bad as the guys or gals in brown outfits who just toss your stuff around. So the lesson is never go any where, stay at home the whole time when your expecting something. Even if its a day early.

Similar thing here. When I got my dvx from Rush through Fedex, it came a day earlier. I recently ordered 10 MQ tapes from Rush and was expecting the tapes to come a day earlier (mon). Well I went to the gym and was hoping to be back before the fedex guy, but they just left a door hanger saying they'd be back tomorrow and if I wanted to, I could fill out a form on the back saying they could leave future packages w/o a sig.

In all fairness, it may be worth another $50 to get it the next day, guaranteed signature required.
Or, you can always have delivery sent to a FedEx/Kinko's or a UPS Store and pick it up.

My .02

They shouldn't leave packages sitting out on the step. Period. If they have to come back then they have to come back. We a signature is required don't leave without it. I always track it close. I remember once I ordered a Sony Hi-8 when they first came out. It was around $1,000 I think(hard to believe the prices back then) and they left it with a person in another apartment. It was a good thing they new me....that was UPS
