Sheer Cover Cosmetics

Looks great. Being that its unedited this is a strange question but I'm interested in your workflow and workstation.

I bet the model on the right is a good swimmer....

Very nice looking image.... and with a known talent in there.. impressive for you and the little big cam... Very clean.

Dolly move seemed a bit wonky and too obvious in it's move.. but that's just a taste of mine. I would have probably had her slowly walking and tracking with her as she goes until you come up to the ending busty model.

Congrats on what looks like a good paying gig... That's more than I can say for my HVX... Just been one low-ball potential client project after another.. but I'm shooting what I want on the side and wouldn't give my camera up for anything..

As far as the lights were concerned...way too many to mention all, but a brief run down. About 20 2 bank kino flos behind the set. A moveable softbox 1k, with about 4 other 1Ks and 2 Ks and a bunch of misc lights over and around the set. The sound stage was huge so we had a lot of lights all over the place.

Justyn, I know what you're referring to. I had a huge teleprompter that wasn't balanced properly for the first few takes. My arms are literally shaking trying to keep the camera still because of the imbalance. The last zoom out isn't as clean as I would like. I knew someone would notice:-) We finally got the thing balanced after we shot the intro.

We had 12 4 gig P2 cards that we rotated to a mac station that offloaded all the cards to redundant HHD's. Having a dedicated station like that really makes life on the set a lot easier. The station consisted on 3 powerbooks and one operator manning the 3 laptops. I always have the P2 cards offloading to 2 harddrives at the same time so there is never a "ooops I lost the footage" whisper. Peace of mind is cheap compared to losing valuable footage because a drive decided to take a dump.

Leeza Gibbons is a joy to work with. She'll nail it in the first take usually. I've shot a lot of Celebrities with this HVX so this thing has been quite a workhorse. Who ever woulda thunk a small camera such as this would be working right along side the big boys.

A 50 inch Panasonic Plasma a 26 inch Panasonic LCD and 2 17 inch Panny LCDs were used. Also Schneider black frost filters were used.

Spin... You are my HERO bro. Big celebrities with our cam.. producing glorious footage and no one knowing any better because it looks good.. Also.. man you had a ton of light and P2s... WOW. That must have looked impressive. Got any pics of the workstation area.

Also.. the reason I noticed the shot was because I've had to deal with that a lot too. I've had huge teleprompters hanging off the front of them... and sometimes it was just about everything I could do just to keep it from falling over....

You give me hope that there's good big phat gigs out there. I got quite a few when I got my cam... but lately I've been running into some HVX people and camera operators that are just about shooting for nothing and giving it away...

Congrats on such a phat job... what else do you have lined up? How did the client and the talent like the footage?

Justyn,

Thanks for the kind words man. I drove out to LA from Southwest Orlando (Kirkman Road) and kind of fell into the entertainment business out here. I work for Underdog Entertainment making music for all the R&B singers that you hear on the radio. Just got lucky I guess. We just finished up the whole soundtrack for Dreamgirls (all 50 some songs). A huge undertaking. I hope you get a chance to see the movie. Beyonce is amazing to work with and of course Eddie and Jamie are funny as he#!.
Our website for the Underdogs is http://www.underdogentertainment.net

Yeah I know what you mean about giving away your services. It's one of those thin lines in that you need to work to build up your demo reel and improve your skills, but at the same time you need to eat as well. In my opinion though, the real money is going to be with the Red. Hollywood can't say anything anymore. It's up to whatever you can come up with. I think the HVX is a good camera to get a lot of practice before it comes out. Those images the Red will produce will put you in the A game as long as all the other film making elements are in place.

Very true... Ahhh Kirkman Road. The migration westward that everyone makes. I would have moved to LA a long time ago but my wife hated it.. and I have two kids. Not a great place to raise a family.. but what a place to have a career. I'm frightened by how much I would have liked it out there.. and also how LA I might have become. I'm already functioning at an 11 here.. so who knows.

Thanks for showing and sharing. I'll check out your site. CONGRATS. I too like the idea of the Red, but I think it'll be a rental camera for me. I'll own the HVX and rent the Red. That's a large nut to crack there.... Would be sweet to get one though.

I'm also adamantly supportive of anything that's anti-hollywood and pro independent... Glad the web is becoming a more even playground and the toys are here to help us accomplish what used to be outside of our grasp and control...

Keep it up. Is beyonce as hot and bootylicious as she appears in the videos? I don't think I'd be able to take my eyes off here assets and that might get me in dutch with the wife....

Take care...

Was this contracted through Guthy Renker or Lieberman Productions? I used to work for the latter, and worked on a sheer cover spot with Leeza as well.

Very good looking stuff. I love the lights in this one. Fresh.
There is a problem in the QT clip that demonstrates perfectly how compressing large dark / black areas makes it "alive". It almost seems there's ghosts moving in the background:) Indeed, a problem in the modern digi-television era: cameras and their picture quality is better than ever, but the quality a viewer gets usually is a compromise:(

Beenyweenies, Guthy Renker.

Justyn, Beyonce is a total gem to work with. By far one of the nicest Stars I've ever worked with and very very humble. No ego whatsoever. That to me makes her even more attractive. She couldn't hit a bad note if she tried. "Listen" is the song we did on her new album from the movie.
