Just want to know if anyone can give me some good advice. I am stock between the Sony FS100 and the Panasonic AF100. I am concerned about the clipping issue of the AF100 though, and can that be overcome in post? All I want is a pristine film look! I will be producing 24 minute presentations for a satellite television. I have been working with the ex1r up to this time and I am switching for the DOF and the 35mm chip.

Thanks for the help!

Firstly. The AF100 does not have a 35mm chip.

Second. My "good advice" is to get to the dealers of each camera and do a test for your self.

Thirdly: What is the "clipping issue"?

There is no "clipping issue.". There is only people who overexpose the camera. And the fs100 behaves the same way the af100 does when overexposed so the answer for both is the same: don't overexpose. Which is really solid advice for any video camera.

You can even remove most of skew due to clipping in post with something like a limiter or shoulder so really a no issue if you do expose sensible. Or go wild and overexpose and it still will look good if you have white balance set correct.

I think I would be more concerned about the lack of ND filters on the FS100, you will need to add those to your kit costs. I would be concerned about not having a Waveform which would certainly tell you when you are close to the clipping point on the camera.(as Barry said both cameras will clip if overexposed) I would be concerned about being limited to only 60P as the only overcrank frame rate. Yes the FS100 is a larger chip, but the reality is that you can get a shallow depth of field with either camera. They both record to the same codec. But the AF100 has NDs, Waveforms, Multiple frame rates over 24 and up to 60P, and much much more, and it costs less.

Best regards,

Jan

I meant when you overexpose and you get this cayenne look on overexposed faces!

Thanks

and a 3 yr warranty vs. Sony's 1 year. Although I do think the Sony has got a lil more paint
