"Sharpen" doesn't export?

Had a clip that was a little soft, so I thought, "Eh, what the heck," and threw a sharpen on it. Surprisingly, it worked (set at about 73 on the 1-100 slider). But when I exported it, it was just like I'd never added the effect. Anyone have any ideas on why this happened (yes it's turned on)?

How are you judging the effect? I mean it's basically a contrast filter. You can't 'refocus' footage in post. (At least not in FCP)...

Right, it's not refocusing so much, but surprisingly it DID help. I've always dismissed sharpen because it makes this look terrible, but this time it actually worked. Though on export, when comparing the QT file to the source file, there's no difference.

FWIW, I always use an unsharp mask rather than a sharpen filter. Unsharp mask sharpens increases the contrast on the edges more than on the rest of your picture, so it doesn't look as nasty if you have to crank it up.

You're not the first person to mention that, arnie. I tried it, and it looked like a comic book at first. So ugly! I played with the sliders and I couldn't get anything out of it.
