Share ownership of an HVX200

Are you a filmmaker planning on buying a Panasonic HVX200?

I am too. Let’s pool our resources and make both our films 2 camera shoots. (We could share sound and grip gear too)

The 2 of us together could cut our costs in half. 4 of us could save even more with co-ownership.

I plan on filming my low budget conversational drama in late Jan/Early Feb 2006.

I’m also looking at purchasing a 35mm depth of field adapter.

Write me at jeff@meltworks.com

I live in Columbus OH and work in Los Angeles.

No, that sounds like a great idea.

Jeff, you send me the $3500 for your half, and I'll buy it, you can trust me.

You can use it any time you can find me.....err.....any time you're in town.....

Pookie, Pookie, Pookie

Like reading your post. Except I think he means you get one and he gets one. Otherwise, he can't do his 2 CAmera shoot. Or I just misunderstood the post.

Maybe Jeff, you should just post it in JOB section when you got your camera.

Good luck anyways. And if you decide to go with pookie advice, which I support. You can give me the $5k and I'll give it to Pookie. :engel017:

Jokes aside, I've been thinking about this. I was a founding member of the Detroit Filmmakers Collition and saw how a group could come together as a creative collective. I also saw how politcs can taint a group and the hardtimes that could follow. It never fails when you get a bunch of strong egos (which most creative folks have) together, there is a lot of "alpha male" bullshit that goes on. Luckily, the Detroit Filmmaker's Collition was able to survive and become the Detroit Film Center.

I would not get into a situation you describe with individuals you do not know and totally trust. And evern then, I would document the agreement fully in writting.

David, I concur.

McCutch, I know your passion and can relate. I do hope Butch does find Cassidy. I was in your situation. I found a few people to work on projects with...but your deal with Different people. I saw your post on Craigslist too. Keep that passion firing.

If you were in the neighborhood, I'll love to work with ya. Truth is, when you network with someone...it is hard to collaborate everytime. They have work and you have work. Two lives, two different personalities. Also, if one of you like avant garde and the other hollywood narrative...very hard to excite passion in the other.

First it's hard to find someone. Then it's about compatility.

Best wishes to you.

If you are in LA, shoot me an e-mail.

I want in too. Can you send me 5K? Ill pick up an HVX and you can use it annnytime you like. I promise.

I think it will put us at a 197 year plan @$8.67 per month.

How's your finances??

This is just a bad idea all round.

Especially on an internet forum.

I wouldn't even get into this kind of a deal with a friend.

i dont think he wants to split costs... he wants to buy a camera, and also share someone elses camera. therefore, they can use both of their cameras on each other's sets for 2 camera shoots.

it's not a bad idea if you were close friends in person, so you can both share a camera or two, but over the internet, I dunno friend, save your money and find someone closer to you.

Co-ownership is where it gets sticky. That sounds like a bad idea.

Pooling resources is cool. Especially if you have friends with similar equipment. Even so, I don't like hiring my friends for free. We hire each other at discounted rates.

I can definitely afford $8.97 a month. Hell, I'll make an even $10 so you know just how much of a team player I am.

As far as this idea goes, it's a thought driven by passion but man, do I see trouble. The only way I can see it working is if you are a passionate cameraman owner/cinematographer/director and you know other passionate sound people with their own equipment and passionate writers with their own scripts...etc...

All I know is that people are just a hair less respectful of YOUR stuff than YOU are. And that difference, gets stuff broken. I love my camera. I haven't even had a lot of time to use it since I bought it last March but I love it so much I bought a second one. And I am poor. I know that if my "partner" knocked it over, got a scratch on it, broke the LCD, ANYTHING, there'd be resentment. Then it would all go downhill. I baby the s*it out of ALL of my stuff. I won't even let my girlfriend set a feather on my Pelican case. It's disrespectful to the equipment inside. My camera case is NOT an end table. Anal? Yes. But I am only anal about this stuff and so are many others about their camera stuff too. So, I wish you luck but it seems like it's going to be a hard gig to get going.

Good luck!
Rick
