Shallow Waste Bin project :(

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

I took a peek over there - Could only go in some areas [You need the secret handshake to get into most]

The site is only 4 months old and they don't have a single project in the works - BUT they talk to people like they are doing them a favor for inviting them in to the "Big world of filmmaking" and blessing them with their knowledge! That's why they tossed Oppressor - They don't want a member who makes the leaders look like young_Filmer.

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

Oh yeah that was another thing. During the meet and greet he put down the DVX saying that sony HD was the shitz (even though i think he said he didnt have or use one yet)and the DVX could not hang. I didnt even waste my time with that one. All I said was its all up to what the film maker wants and I happen to love the look of the DVX. Then he gives me this look and says I have to go and talk to other people.
Me and my friend looked at each other and was like WTF is up with that and then we left thinking well at least the actors and actresses were nice.

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

Oh that just takes the biscuit! I'm goin' in, and I'm goin' in NOW. I got my authorization ;D

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

Kappa...

Your right film school is a waste of time. I know.. I am going to film school...

But lets clarify, Film Studies is a waste of time for people wanting to get into production(although the knowledge doesn't hurt).

Film school for me is kind of a waste because I have years of self taught knowledge... the only reason I go... is I can borrow and use all the equipment I need.. and my school has access to 16mm and 35mm equipment.. I don't go for the "so-called" knowledge.. I prefer teaching myself... but I am not rich so it works for me.

There is some good, in my case, all my "teachers" are industry pros... and have lots of stories/knowledge to share based on experience...

but in general I agree that film is somewhat of a waste.. but it can be good for some.

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

I completely agree with what you said. That's exactly what I was trying to say, only better.

After my short stint in film school, I'm now back to the rack for animation/virtual design with a minor in post- apps, but like you, I'm self-taught, so it's not exactly new information. Couldn't be happier :).

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

Wow. So I just went and poked around the shallow dumpster forum, and that is one large collection of stoners. It's like looking through a glass dome into a self-contained, oblivious little environment full of people who have no idea that the real world will eat them alive if they ever find their way out into it. And, they don't know the first thing about shooting, editing, compositing, mixing, or ANYTHING else. (they think realtime cards are "too outdated"... need I say more?) I can't even begin to describe how sad it is...

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

kappa, I notice you registerd. For some reason I couldn't register. Them dam chongo asses! I should considering hacking that page.. No I kidd, the Feds said I can't anymore. ;)

What does the "leader" use?

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

Thre name says it all, they are shallow and what they create belongs in the trash. ::)

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

Wow - that site should be called McDonalds, cus its full of nuggets!*

*nuggets is my word for noobs/nubs

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

;D Agreed.  It's nothing but a frat and I wouldn't be surprised if the "leader" is someone who had (just once) a minor production job on a movie or tv show. That, having been the peak of his career, now brings it up at every meeting, "Hello everyone. I'm (Insert Name). And I helped make Temptation Island 3 the most successful show on UPN, ...during the 2-3am time slot on Thursday nights."

That's like me starting a website. "Welcome. My name is PK and I was the DVXfest winner for Dec. 2004. (scattered applause) ...Thank you. Thank you very much. ...no, no, please stop."

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

I'm getting tired just watching your avatar PK :D

You are the king of things that go round and round ;D

Damn, you got to it first, Elvis. I was going to say that they're shallow, and by reading they're posts they seem like they're all wasted. And I want to beat them with a garbage bin (or a bin of any sort, really.)

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

Hmmmm....I have to say it. This whole thread is scarin me, It's like watching everyone pop their heads up out of the fox hole then coming back down to report "Man you should see what those clowns are up to now!" Is this maybe how the first war started? I say let em go let em grow...or not. What if one of them breezed through here? Could be bad for business...Just my 2c

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

this sam guy is a bit... of a character:

"A $500 digital camera technically has better optics and delivers a much higher resolution picture than a $2,000 video camera, right? So why not hack a digital camera and rig it somehow to capture 24 frames per second directly to a huge hard drive? It doesn't seem like it would be too hard - you'd need a might big cache but 1gb flash memory cards are very cheap now... "

"MiniDv is 720x480... What's a 3 megapixel camera? 4 times that resolution? Heck, HD is only 1024x768... Hmmm.."

Then they start trying to siphon funds...

"Hell, wouldn't you like there to be a day that the swb will pay you to work on a shoot? I don't really care about that, I just want to play with 35 mm film or one of those high end HD cameras... There are resources out there and, honestly, I feel like we need and deserve our fair share."

He says he doesn't care, then why is there an outcry for funds so he can play with high end cameras without even showing anybody his work...

Holy ****
