Shallow Waste Bin project :(

I copied and pasted from another place I posted this.

Sooooo check this out, I happen to see this ad on craigslist i think about this project and how film makers can get together and make films and share resources. So I sign up just to check it out and maybe offer some help with my crew and possibly do something together. Seemed friendly enough. I sign up, get an email to a meet and greet and an email to a forum. Everything is fine. I go to the meet and greet, talk to a few people and the next day I go to post on this forum and say thanks for the evening and was glad to meet some of them and I cant get on. I try and try and then I says im banned. So i email an admin and they tell me that No other film companies can be a part of this like im going to go and take there talent or something. Then I get an email from the guy sam who runs it saying basically why would our guys want to hang with your guys? Well he actually said would McDonalds employees go hang at the Burger King lounge?
WTF?
Is this what the new age of film makers are going to be like?
I believe this community is tight and everyone helps everyone else out no matter where they come from or who they are part of, am I correct or am I just old school?
I just had to let that out because its the first time something like this has happened. I thought reaching out to another local place was only to build stronger relations.
Man I hope this isnt a hint for more to come.

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

While your idea of meet and greet is an entirely noble idea, it's rampant in the indusrty to remain "loyal' while working for a studio.

Now, the situation you describe is clearly not at that level, but it does exist.

Nothing new, just not polite.

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

Its not even a studio, its like students getting together to make films. I thought at first it would be a studio type place even though they are all doing it for free. I just went to feel it out to see what they were about. But to ban me without notice and then send an email mocking my 2 unfinished sites is beyond trying to keep someone loyal. You must freelance all over as a steadicam operator and feel loyal to each and every client no? I guess Im just heated over the idea that some people are just asses like that. I should have phrased it, when they banned me they did it because of my sig in the forum. The same one i use here. Funny how a single sig image scared them into thinking I was an enemy which I am now. Bad Karma comes back to haunt.

heh, spider, at first i was thinking the same thing. But then I thought, I wasted enough time with them and feel bad for the opportunites lost at times like these and step on by them.

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

There you have it. 104 people that know it all! There loss! I bet they were afraid of losing members to us.

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

Yeah, stay away from students at all costs. They will reduce your work to a level lower than you could have ever imagined. Film school is a waste of time IMO (that's why I transferred out after 3 weeks ;D).

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

And now I'm going deep into enemy territory, undercover, to shame them all...

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

"Film school is a waste of time IMO".......

1977 USC Film School graduate here kappa22, carefull.........

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

Sorry pookie, I wasn't trying to insult you (or anyone else for that matter). Your reputation is clearly well established and respected.

I was being relative with time. I think it was about 1,000,000 times better to go to film school back then, simply because filmmaking really did require a complete education, and amatuer films weren't nearly as mainstream. But nowadays, the formulas that they continue to teach in film schools are so overused that they are often considered to be the mark of a poor production or a complete novice, and may break an otherwise promising film. Thus, first-time graduate productions are generally ridiculed as being "student material." My belief is that someone with a creative vision can go learn what they need to of their own accord and produce amazing work without ever setting foot inside a school.

You're talking legs, right? ;)

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

I feel more sorry for the people in that group who think they're getting a good deal. Poor fools.

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

Kind of sums it up in this 'Sam' guys READ THIS post:

(Paraphrasing as always)

"...Please don't be intimidated if it seems like we've already formed cliques of sorts..."

He's already letting you know that there are cliques in this community. So, please don't be intimidated if we exclude you and treat you like a ****ing leper.

And his sig !

I mean, **** me sideways.  The guy is qouting Sam Brakhage,  You don't really want to hang wiht someone who actually qoutes Sam Brakhage do you?  That says exactly the type of 'filmmaker' he is.       LMAO  :D

Other posts by this guy say:

"....We then pick all the people who we've haven't worked with before and use them as P.As."

What a ****ing asshole.  Gee I wish I could go be a P.A. for him and prove myself.

"...If you havd done your tour of duty (it could be once or a few times, depending on your background) and you continue to show enthusiasm then we'll ask you what you'd like to do next (either assistant sound, assistant camera, or assistant lighting)."

Now theres a Tour of ****ing duty involved?  And then, I can choose to be someones fluffer, er, assistant?

Perhaps I'll register; I'm bored.   :)

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

That asshole (Sam) e-mails you back and asks for your name and email address. My new name is Miguel ;D.

Re: Shallow Waste Bin project :(

I'm at a lose here ...   :-/

So who started that place and what gives him the credentials to be leader of the "cult"? Why would anyone who considered themselves even remotely independent or artistic join such a hierarchy?  :P

Do you have to wear a robe and have your ass paddled? ::)

Nooooo - Don't drink the orange juice!
