SGPRO questions.

Hey there, I was wondering if spending the extre 300 bucks on the flip module is really worth it? Because I can get the sg ready to go minus the flip for 1000 shipped. Can't I just do that trick and flip the DVX lcd image as well? Or get an external monitor? Also, does anyone have any experience with the SG follow focus? Because the SG kit flipped, follow focus everything works out to almost the same as the LEX kit.

Thanks

I have an M2, not an SG, but I just recently got the MicroX flip for it, I've tried the LCD trick, but that only fixes the vertical, not the horizontal. Let me tell you, once I got the MicroX, I was MUCH happier than just simply flipping the LCD, not to mention it will save some time from flipping all the footage in post.

At the very least I'd recommend getting a monitor with a vertical AND horizontal flip function on it. But I wouldn't suggest the LCD hack. If it's anything like the HVX hack, if you loose the cover, you're SOL if you ever want your LCD to turn off when you close it.

i have the SG Pro Non Flip and I love it the way it is. BUT, i also have a Nebtek HD monitor so..... I'm thinking you'd rather spend the extra $300 for a flip than $2k for a monitor with built in flip.

Unless you get a cheap lcd for framing at which point I'd still rather have the flip. I thnk Wayne is working on an Shoot35-built flip module, dont quote me though. If this is true, I'd wait for him to announce more info, unless ofcourse you need it now. Who knows when new products will actually release.

Our flip to non flip sales are very much 50/50. The camcorder you are shooting with has a big influence on this decision.

All new orders are being shipped with our shoot35 flip module and optics (including achromat).

The Shoot35 flip module look exactly the same as the previous letus ones? There anything different about em? Got pics?

will the flip package include the non flip version too?
so one day if I don't want the extra 0.2 light loss I can shoot without the flip?

I have the flip and its great. I do quite a bit of DP work filming other peopls films, and we like to view the rushes off the tape/card on the computer or bigger video monitor or TV and this just isnt possible without the flip unit.

Also if you are required to just hand the tape to the clients at the end of the day, its hardly professional to give them upside down footage.

I have not noticed that the light loss is a major problem.

As far as I know, the SG flip unit is made by an optics company and is the same as the letus flip unit.

The Flip SGpro cannot be used in the non flip mode, as the long tube that is included with the non flip unit is not included (this used to be true, but Wayne can confirm for certain).

Just to add. if you use the flip trick on the dvx you can flip horizontally and vertically by telling the lcd to mirror or not. I can't remember whether on or off does the trick but it's one of them.

So Wayne, are you saying that all new orders are being shipped automatically with the flip? My issue ultimately comes down to price because for the same price as the Letus Extreme and rods etc I can get a complete kit from SG including follow focus. Does anyone have any experience with the SG FF? Is it worth it, or should I go RR. Maybe even indie focus? Im on an extreme budget.

The big difference with the shoot35 flip module is that it ships with our achromat and optical setup which certainly improves the image. All new orders are being shipped with both our flip module and achromat.

The 'flip bundle' does no include the 'non flip' achromat and rear tube. If you would like to include this to use the SGpro both flipped and non flipped, you need to purchase an SGpro or SGpro&FF bundle, and then add the flip module separately, which gives you both the non flip parts. The difference is £49.

So when I use the flip module, the long tube comes of...?
Does the length of the whole setup shorten or lengthen?

Wayne,

correct me if im wrong but I could have sworn that I saw some post in a thread about a DVX optimized achromat being developed or available soon?
