Ok so I had briefly looked through the 1.4 vs 1.8 50mm lens posts on this forum and around the net.

I live in Japan, and went to the second-hand lens store--hoping to buy another 1.8. However, they only had the 1.4 in stock and I ended up buying this Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AI. It's not that bad and does superbly well in low light. But whats the difference between this one and Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AF in terms of image quality? Should I buy a 1.8?

Thanks guys

I actually prefer some of the older Nikon AI lenses (for shooting stills). The build quality is much sturdier than the newer plastic-y AF, the 1.4's have better glass, and the manual focus is much smoother on the AI lenses. Again, this is my take from shooting stills with Nikon gear and I have no experience with 35mm adapters.
