SGpro Bokeh Test

From the looks of it, it has the same specs as the new letus ultimate, i.e. same price range.. i.e. in the 4 thousand dollar range. booo

Papa, don't raise price upon the look..

If you have wish to pay that much for it, no problem..

Pation is the mother of wistom..

Wayne,

My question is: would be focusing elements ( blades? ) switchable, or you should decide at start witch one to buy??

And you could add bracket screw mount on the top / bottom of that unit, therefore it would be easier to mount it to rod support system..

Congratulations on very professional design!!

david

i am only speculating as to

1) be slightly naughty
2) keep my expectations low
3) await a response from wayne saying " oh no no no, it won't be that much"

you know how these games work.. (using two periods is fun!)

Hi,

Yes, there will be a rods bracket that can mount on either the top or bottom. Also, GG type is be chosen upon order and will not be switchable.

Because the SGblade is in the final R&D stages (patent pending) we are not releasing any pricing or availability info yet.

I wouldn't worry about it having the same specs, build, or price range as the Ultimate. The Ultimate's tapping a very specific market, I think Wayne's just trying to bring out another adapter that's another flavor of the SGpro at nearly the same cost which is great for the market. Lots of DVXusers want a low-cost solution that does even better than what they already have, Wayne may be able to deliver a great new product at the same price to appease those thirsts. Nice.

Edit here: Sorry, need to correct the above statement. It's that the anything to do with ball bearing design as far as the center post and motor goes is Patented already. And that's the real "heart" of the Ultimate. So the core of how the Ultimate operates as outlined on FreshDV is all patented.

The Letus Corp already has a patent on the internals of the Ultimate, ball bearing designs etc., and it takes quite a lot to construct an Ultimate altogether. They do look pretty similar, though. Interesting.

Either way, the more options for the masses the better!

I wonder what the ETA of the SGblade is going to be?

When can we see some lovely footage? Im really curious to see how this new design/coating will affect the adapter's bokeh/sharpness. And i cant wait to see what the new diffuser has to offer in terms of lightloss and bokeh rendition.

Actually, we filed 4 patents for the Ultimate:

1. Off center driving using a center post
2. Center post on ball bearing(s). This will cover any ball bearing(s) on the center axis of the GG, this will even prevent a person to use a motor with ball bearing(s) to even drive the motor as the center axis.
3. The X-Y frame adjustment with perpendicular mounting for maximum stability.
4. The on the fly back focus adjustment. This covers the way we are doing right now and one more way, that is using Clockwise and Counter Clockwise.

We also patent our FLIP MODULE and the prism design inside, and also the casing.

Of course, the ultimate is not about the 4 things above, it's about the complete Ultimate solution. The Ultimate will use the coating you would find in the $10,000 Leica notilux-M 50mm f1.2 on all of its optical surfaces. This is what made the Ultimate's color very very vivid and lively. This adds $$ to the Ultimate price. But again, you get what you pay for.

Those are the things I was missin'. So there you go! Straight from the Hien's mouth. Glad someone could explain it better than I can.

Although the Leica coating is news to me! Sick.

Do you mean the $5,000 Noctilux which is actually f/1.0? The f/1.2 is an older version of the lens. Also, what specific coating is this? How do you know it is only used in the Noctilux? Are you just stating the most expensive lens you could think of?

I'm starting to get tired of adapter makers throwing hyperbole at us as if it was actual concrete specs. Just be straight with us please. Also, enough with the thread jacking.

Marco
Sorry about the thread jacking. I didn't mean to. Just responding. But it was indeed in the wrong thread. Sorry about it.

Moderator, would you please move this thread to: "The Heart Letus Ultimate Design".

In the mean time, here is the answer to your question:

Lens design is 2 parts. Engineering and coating. Engineering will get you the sharpness, coating, will give you good color (in simple term). We use the equivalent coating you found in the Leica's lenses. You cannot find our coating on any Japan made lens. We use the Notilux lens only as the reference, even if you can get that lens for $500, it's the equivalent coating on that lens. It's definitely not the AR coating you found in most of the prism systems out there.

Again, sorry for posting in the wrong thread. Moderator, please move all my posts away, including this one.

Thanks,

Hien

It's a lot more honest to say "We use the same coating as Leica" than to say "We use the same coating as a $10,000 Noctilux" which implies that you can only get that coating on a $10,000 lens. First of all, the coating isn't exclusive to that lens, which by the way never cost $10,000. The Noctilux retailed for around $5,000. Your second remark, "You cannot find our coating on any Japan made lens" is not true. Minolta made lenses for Leica in Japan. As a matter of fact, some iterations of the Noctilux were made in Canada. And I am still wondering how you know that you are using the same coating as Leica.

Sorry Hien, I'm not trying to be rude. I just see a certain behavior from some adaptor makers that bothers me. I don't like to see specifications and features exaggerated. Just give us straight-forward, unembellished facts. And it's perfectly fine if you need to respond to a post inside a thread talking about a competitor's adapter. I just don't think it should be used as an opportunity to advertise your product.

Marco

P.S. I have a lot of respect for Dennis, Wayne and the Le brothers.

Funny, because if the Ultimate did use the Ball Bearing design, the heart of the Ultimate is just a rip off of somebody else's DIY adapter. But not completely of course...just some. Another example of R&D.

Can even see Wayne in there poking around for a good GG. The inspiration for the Sgpro and Blade maybe.

Nice find, Car3o. Although I'm not sure you can call it a ripoff (not defending anyone here) as most of these adapters are using the same design. SGpro looks just like the M2 looks just like the P+S. SGpro Flip is same exact design as the patented Letus Flip. So, vicious cycle.

But that was a funny read. I also see a post talking about real glass and what Wayne said in the other thread about real glass is a regurgitation of that. The Ultimate does have a Real Glass disc and the formula is working out, so I guess it's just a matter of "who" engineers it.

I'm not on the up and up on all that, but I guess if Letus has the patent now then there's nothing that can be done but get sued if you try to use it. Whether it's just applied for or it has been granted I'm not sure. Not my sector.

Another thread topic, though. Sorry Marco!

Hehe, nice find. Me and Nick still speak over the phone and MSN frequently, very talented guy and has produced some inspiring music vids. These posts go back to 2005 and show that I have been around from the beginning of researching spinning glass disks :)

And the idea of 'patenting' the Porro-Abbe prism designed over a century ago does confuse me:

there's another thread i couldn't find that did a pully system as well. it could be this. but from what i remember reading that it had a "problem" can't remember what it was. too loud maybe? not fast enough? I think it had to with a noise issue. i thought Wayne had gave it a shot, or was going to, but opted out.

Yeah, this is the design I think you are refering to, Nicks design from 2005:

Nick has been helping me with the Blade

Yeah, Nick was not happy with the noise of that one. I must say that Nick is the most resourceful guy I have ever known, he has been a great help to myself over the years with the SGpro and now the Blade - great guy.
