SG35 - New footage

Hey everyone,

I'm now a proud owner of the SG35! Took a 3 hour train ride to pick it up in person.. Wayne's a great guy A++ for customer relations!

I'm using the adapter for a shoot this weekend so I'll be sure to get some grabs once it's done.

On my way back the train station we did a quick 'run and gun' and got some rather shakey but neverless worth watching SG35 footage. We shot on a canon FD 50mm 1.4

There's a bit of dust on the PCX lens which I didnt notice. It's simple to clean so sorting it out will be a 1 minute job.

Here's the link :

nice!! what model do you have? the low light or hi light?
what system did you use to flip the screen? is it possible to just use the g35 without using a rail? lot of questions :)

Yas,
As dan said, it was hand held 'run and gun' footage on our way to the station. He was in a rush to catch his train.

Hi,
Sorry but I have had no time to develope it further, been busy filling current orders. Its something i want to get my teeth into as soon as I get the time.

Wayne, the footage is looking nice. However, I noticed a few things. Firstly there is some static dirt in a few shots. Is that a result of your adapter or a dirty lens?

Also, I am seeing significant chromatic aberration in high contrast areas.

I suppose this is one of the trade-offs if you want an adapter that is sub-$1000... There is a Photoshop plug-in around somewhere that recognizes and cleans up this color shift....wonder if it can be adapted for NLEs.

Anyway, keep the footage coming.

Hi,
Yep the dust got in as we were taking the dvx on and off a few times. The SG35 is designed so that you can take out the pcx lens for cleaning purposes, easily solved.

I will leave it till you test the SG35 yourself after norm has finished with it in his shootout. You can then get a better idea of the chroma seperation.

I kinda dont see it Disjecta? i mean theres a tinge, of blue, but it doesnt look to bad to me.

Wayne the footage looks nice. I am excited. IT seems to compress the contrast ofthe scene a little, and i likethe way it handles highlights, its an interesting image. Not razor sharp, as i was hoping for, but still pleasing none the less.

it has a great quality super8ish feel. MAybe poorly telecined 16mm. I like it.

I look forwrd to tweaking it for best performance.

Thanks,
Once you have your unit and have it under your own control, I dont think you will be dissapointed with sharpness. Its always hard to judge, especially on hand held footage where its hard to focus the SLR, so anything thats slightly blurred due to not being properly focused is perceived as the adapter not being sharp. I was with dan at the time of shooting, and i can tell you, its hard to focus with the sun bleaching out the LCD..hehe.

Norms adapter shootout should answer this once he does some controlled tests.
