especially about the audi one, how much of that was cgi? and if so what program did you use??
and for the panda.mov what lighting did you use other than the streetlights etc. that were already there? was a lot color correction or magic bullet etc. used to get that look? the colors were so rich it looks like 35mm film.
Well, let´s see.
In the audi spot there is no CGI at all.
We just used fire extinguisers and smoke machines to do the effect of dust made by a fast car (it was winter by that time and it was very wet). We were on a very desert area where is rare to rain but just after we shot that fake spot, we couldn´t take out the cars. We had 4x4 but there was so much mud that they didn´t move. So it was funny until we had to pay for assitance.
So, no CGi, just a little color correction and the use of gradient filts (usually done in post).
For the mg roadster vs. panda, we had to set all the lights. We did that very quickly in one night, since we did not have the permission to film in the street.
I think i used all the lights i could find:
- a couple of HMI fresnel
- 2 fluorescent lights
- some cannon spot lights (i do not know the name in english, perhaps someone could teach me. It is a not very powerfull light -around 300W- but with a lense which gives an aperture of 18º or so. These are usually used in theaters to spot a singer, for example). I use this to create a "rim" light in the back of the actors.
So thats all. I did not know the existance of magic bullet by that time. Now, i don like too much, i would rather prefer to color correct myself the images. For this clip, i think i only adjusted the levels, because there was no need for anything else.
Edited:
PUajjjj, i am watching again the panda clip and i don´t like it too much. Since we couldn´t set the lights too high the shadows they make are terribly bad, and also you can feel too much that the lights "are there". I am not proud of that.
As i seen i discover that i used also tungsten lights to fill the portals and houses surrounding the cars and i also apply some fake gausian blur to "create" less depth of field. ;D
Bye
PD: BTW, just if you do not get the joke. The seat/fiat Panda was a car sold 20 years ago in Europe. Is not made anymore. But we thought it might be fun to awake it back, just as BMW did with the Mini Cooper. That is the main reason of this clip.
