Setup Advice?

I've read and searched through these forums and **think** I have the setup planning "correct" (yes, i know there's personal & client aesthetic choices), but throughout the threads, there's information that's contradictory to each other, so I'm gonna re-ask.

I've been hired to do a live band. I'm **trying** to talk them into a 2 camera setup, but dunno if they want to coin up for it, and I need the band footage, so I'll take what I can get for experience.

That being said...what I **plan** on doing is this (given 1 camera scenario).

  • Get there early and try to set white balance off of something....anything I can find that's white.
  • Run 1 mono feed from the mixer into XLR1
  • Run 1 Shure SM57 on mic stand for ambient (it's that or the onboard mic)
  • Pray
  • If agreed on 2d cam, transfer settings to sync up timecode & place both on free-run mode with sync timecode (is that the best way, never done that before).
  • 24pA vs. 30p vs. 60i - i'm at a loss here. I've ONLY shot w/ the DVX @ 24p. Timeline and what looks best for a concert is where I'm lacking, especially mixing format. I have a 2d camera that's 60i only i can use for B stuff if need be, just would rather not (GS250). I've seen mixed preferences on this. I love the DVX100B look at 24p, but that's been for weddings & such, this will be my first band shoot.
This is going to be on a DVX100B unless they'll coin up for HVX. **IF** they go for the HVX, anything other than the P2/Firestore work flow I need to know in comparison to the lighting & audio situation vs. the DVX?

Thanks...and after 3 hrs of looking, if you feel compelled to link me to a specific thread, please do so...i don't mind reading further, but after 3hrs of searching, i'm spent on searching (for now).
