Settings, Settings

If this is not the mother of all questions, it's at least the mother in law. I need to get to the bottom line here. I just purchased a new dvx-100a. I'm shooting next week and there's not much time to do alot of tests before hand with all the various options. So here's the skinny. If I'm shooting in natural light 24p and want the best look possible. What do you suggest the camera should be set on regarding gamma, knee, and all the other options available. I'll tweak in post so I'm going for the best possible look obtainable. I welcome all info and opinions. ;D

Re: Settings, Settings

well our own barry green is writing the definitive manual on life, well on the dvx-100 and it will be out soon.

but for now use F6

there is a nice article on here somewhere the deals with Master Ped, but other than that just leave it alone for now and use the standard F6 settings, you probably don't have time to learn a lot of settings and test test test that new look.

Re: Settings, Settings

I agree. The default F6 settings will give you a nice look. In fact, the only change I've made so far is to drop the chroma level to -4. I'm happy with the results, so far.

Re: Settings, Settings

Thanks for the input, f6 is 24 advanced, correct? What does that do to the gamma settings, etc. Is there a default F6 setting that helps achieve that cinematic look?

Re: Settings, Settings

If you shoot using the default settings you will get great results so don't sweat it. You can adjust black levels and chroma in post. Make sure that you don't shoot when the light is really failing because the 24p settings are not the best for lowlight shooting.

The difference between f5 and f6 is how the camera handles pulldown, not settings.

Re: Settings, Settings

Thanks Disjecta, So am I to assume that F5 and F6 will render the same results. The basic 3:2 pulldown is what I'm looking for and that seems to be the F5 setting. If both F's have the same default setting, I should be good to go, correctomundo?
