Settings / Lens suggestions for Alaska Shoot

I have just got my DVX-100B this week and leaving next week for Alaska. Unfortunately, I have not had time to read up and play around with all of the settings and feature.

Does anyone have any lens suggestions or setting for shooting scenery, wildlife, etc?

Thanks in advance!

The standard lens is great....i would say maybe a telephoto adaptor if you're gonna be shooting from far away, but otherwise, the lens is great.

As for scene settings, I think to leave everything at 0, and do things in post. Just remember to white balance a lot, probably every hour. Bring extra batteries....whenever I shoot, I bring at least 2 hours more than I think I'll need. Same for tapes, I love the AMQ, and again, I bring about 1 hour more than I think I'll need.

Alaska is beautiful. There's plenty to take in. Good luck.

I was in some harsh conditions that first time I shot with the DVX. I had read up a lot, but still made a lot of mistakes, like underexposing my footage too much. Not trying to freak you out, just don't get too crazy. It's a pretty good cam right out of the box.

You really just gotta jump in and have at it. I keep my iris wide at all times, and I expose with my nd's and shutter speed. Don't be afraid to shoot high shutter speeds. When I first got my dvx I tryed to hide the 24p strobing, and then I realized that I should show it off. I shoot 1/500th and 1/1000 a lot, just cause it looks cool. Play around, but don't be afraid to change you shutter speed like so many people are.

I'll shoot 1/24, if I need light, I need light. Just put it on a tripod, or hold you breathe, exhale squeeze.

In Alaska, in the summer, low light conditions aren't really an issue, especially the further north you go. Get to about Barrow and the sun will just circle around.
