Settings for using a strobe light

I did a search for this but couldn't find anything.

I want to shoot some stuff using a strobe light for effect. Any tips on settings? I know I will have to play with the shutter speed, but what else needs adjusting for that?

Well, other than that you would probably just want to make sure you didn't get too blown out when the strobe was on. Also, might want keep in mind that for a more pronounced effect, you'll probably want it totally dark in between flashes. Other than the shutter speed in that stuff, I guess its just something that you'll have to play with till you get what you want. Also, the actual light coming from the strobe is probably going to be pretty cool, so you'll have to adjust your white balance accordingly.....
