F3: Settings for Slo Motion on F3

My sister had a 1984 Fiero. I sold it for her around year 2000 but can't say it was overly rusty. I always wanted to buy a car kit for it, but never did.

Anyway, about the F3 and slow mo. If you shoot internally to cards you can not shoot slow mo in 1080p mode so drop the camera to 720p 24p or 30p under system settings and then when you press the S&Q button on the side (one with blue ring around dial) you can dial in the frame rate over 24 or 30 that you want. For example 48/24 is 2x slow mo, 60/24 is 2.5x slow mo. I find 2.5x slow mo a bit too slow and prefer 2x slow mo - but of course you can figure out what you like best based on what you are shooting. If you want 60/30 that is 2x slow mo, etc.. etc..

Funny story about the car....

On another note, your a genius... Thanks

Want to add some variety to this projects im working on.

Thanks.

I forgot to mention that later in post you can blow up the 720p footage by exactly 50% to match any 1080p footage you shoot, or just if you want a 1080p finished project. I did this a lot when I owned the F3 and honestly there is hardly any difference noticeable I found. I've even had the material displayed on large theatre screens in 1080p, it looked very good.

Very cool... Im using a Blk Magic Shuttle 2 as external for Green screen / Graphics.. The uncompressed footage is killing my Hard drive space...What can you recommend.

What are you shooting on now ? F55, Red ?

I can recommend a brand new'ish 512GB OCZ 4 Vertex SSD I have for sale, as I just sold the complete BMC shuttle 2 deck earlier this week. I bought everything new earlier this year but ended up selling the F3 before really getting to use it on any projects. I shot about 20 seconds of test footage with it on a very detailed scene comparing XDCAM, DNX, ProRes and Uncompressed and did not see huge differences but of course a few, mainly in the detail areas when zooming in and really looking for it. Try shooting a multi-colored wool sweater, that ought to test virtually any codec. :)

I ended up moving over to F55 as I wanted a camera mainly for shooting "cinema" and wanted more bit-depth for grading and even better RAW capability. So far, the XAVC 10-bit 422 is pretty nice but soon I will start testing the SR Codec to see how it compares, but sadly it is not available in 4k - only HD.
