Settings for shoot & edit

Just upgraded from my Sony PD150 to the exciting world of the HVX. Wow- lot's of things to learn.

My question is (and forginve the newbie to the camera please)-
I am shooting a dance piece with 3 HVX 200 and will be shooting all of the featurette and making of with PD150 PD 170's. I would imagine to keep things compatible downline it would be a good idea to shoot 720p 30. I love the look of 24 but for movement sometiimes the jittery film look isn't what works best for me. Also, the end user is SD DVD so I see no reason to shoot in a higher res format.

Am I on the right track here? Can I edit the footage from both cameras/formats in the same timeline in FCP HD? What would the optimum settings be for the timeline. One other thing... I will end up in 16x9 so I was thinking of shooting anamorphic on the PD's so as to match the image size of the HVX. Whew... pandora's box...

Thanks for the help!

I would look at shooting DVCPro50 at 30P, not only does it match the cadence of the Sony, but it is a better choice for dance performances. It's a SD format, but with 4:2:2 color sampling and a true progressive image.

30p?

30p?

Thanks for your reply. As far as the PD footage, it will only be used in the making of featurette so matching is not as big an issue. All of the performance will be on the HVX. Do you think this would still be the best option? I want the performance to look as stellar as possible.

Do you have a recommendation for a scene setting for shooting under theatrical ligting?
