settings for Motorcycle racing

I filmed some races last year using 24PA and 1/60 setting.
I have read a post somewhere a shutter speed of 1/120 should be used.
Just trying to get the best settings for filming super bikes, vintage etc
I also tried the slow motion with 60i and 1/120 setting..worked great BUT that part looks out of place .
Has anyone tried 24Pa with 1/1000 shutter speed then slowing down?

Pretty well I never go above 1/250, mainly because of the 'jitter' in the background, which looks a bit odd, but mainly because of the difficulty of maintaining focus. I've never done bikes, but do cars from time to time and the other thing that has an impact is distance from subject to camera - higher shutter speeds work better when using longer lenses further away. Closer your pan speeds are much higher, and motion blur is pretty inevitable, but going higher makes the stuttery effect worse. I don't mean conventional stutter - as in jerks, but that wierd artefact that makes the background kind of stretch in a strange way. I like to find a speed that lets the subject remain sharp, but lets the background blur a bit. 1/120 and 1/250 seem to work. I've never done any serious work at 50, all my stuff is 25.

If you want slo-mo and what you did didn't work, try 60i at 1/60.

A higher shutter speed is going to make it worse.

It's not the shutter speed which makes 24p unsuitable for slo-mo; it's the frame rate itself. Moving objects "jump" too far in between frame for smooth slow motion. The reason 60i works is because objects move considerably less in between individual pictures.

I used to shoot that kind of stuff 60i with 1/60 or sometimes a little higher shutter. I've since sold the camera, but I wonder how 30P would work???
