Settings for ENG

Is anyone out there besides my shop using this camera for ENG in SD?

I hate the way the picture looks. The whites are so blown out...even when I have the picture underexposed. It looks like crap and I'm ready do things with this camera I'd probably get fired over.

We're shooting SD and I have the camera in News Gamma. I haven't messed with any of the detail settings. We're shooting in 480/60i. We've been shooting in DVCPro for 6 years and never had any problems with internal settings. We get new cameras that no one wanted shoved down our throats and no one can help us. All the info I can find is about shooting in HD and for the film look.

Can anyone give me any kind of help to get this video to look like it's supposed to look for broadcasting?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Well, broadcast requires 7.5 IRE. If the wrong setting is being used that could be your problem.
Go to camera setup in the menu. I noticed in mine, the default setting for DV tape is 0, not 7.5.
For P2, default is 7.5. The wrong IRE setting would cause exactly the problem described- blown out whites.

I was really hoping that was the problem but it wasn't. We're shooting on P2 so the setting was correct.

Is it possible the problem is after I bring it in to the NLE? We're using Avid Newscutter XP (again, not my choice, but what I was stuck with). Is anyone familiar enough with Avid to know if my problem is there?
