Settings for a music video

Hi, I will shoot my first video with a local dfw r&b/pop artist. The shooting will be indoors in a club and it will basically just be him singing and walking. What settings do you guys recommended for the shooting? I will be using just the HVX200A and will be doing the editing in Final Cut Pro. Any advice will be appreciated. Thx.

P.S. He just wants the video for promotional purposes.

Well, what kind of feel do you want? Barry Green's "filmic" scene file always looks great to me, I love the high level of contrast, but I don't know if that's what your client wants or not. Tell him to show you some examples of videos he wants it to feel like. And if he's doesn't know, find some videos that YOU want it to feel like.

If you are shooting in a club, there will probably be light levels varying from extreme shadow to extreme highlight. When I shoot in clubs, I usually have a conversation with the lighting desk operator and plead for a minimum ambient level. I also usually shoot with B.press and a high knee to keep the noise down in the shadows and to protect the highlights. At all costs, I avoid increasing the gain: instead I increase the shutter angle to as much as 350 degrees. Color and detail at 0 to +2 (lower if the light level is questionable).
