Settings change every power off

I'm getting pretty annoyed at how when I switch the power off, say inbetween takes, and when I power it back on, the settings change to whatever scene file it is currently turned to. Am I to understand that if I want to power off for a minute, I have to save the current scene settings into a scene file before I power down so that they will be the same when I power back on? I sure hope that is not the case.

I'm used to the VX2000 where I had ON/OFF/STANDBY. When you go to standby and then back to on, your settings are the same. How can I do this with the HVX? I lose whatever settings I am on when I turn the power off.

Any changes made to scene files are only retained after power off if you save them. Otherwise they'll revert to the scene file defaults for that particular scene file.

I was annoyed with that too until I went onto the next screen which has the rename and save options there...

Starting to love the scene files .

on the DVX there is a toggle in Scene Files "Save/Init"

if you toggle it to SAVE, you're good, when its in INIT it goes back to initial factory settings everytime you turn it off

i'm guessing the HVX is the same

Dusterdoo, you only need a SD card if you want to save the scene files some place else other than the camera or if you want to match the settings from one camera to another.

There is an internal battery. The camera should be plugged in with the AC adapter and left turned off for 4 hours. I did it overnight to be safe. This is addressed somewhere in the manual but I don't have it to quote the page number.

FWIW the battery was charged when I got the camera but apparently needs to be plugged in periodically to maintain that charge.

the external battery will charge the internal - i have never plugged in my camera and havent lost a setting

Technically, I thought the internal battery was charged only when the AC is plugged in and the camera is in the "OFF" position (as icicle said). It comes charged, though, and should last a LONG time (you often accidentally charge it when you have it plugged in but switched off). The scene files are not tied to the battery in any case.

Or if you want to have different scene files for different types of shoots.
