Setting used by Nancy Schreiber for November

Hello,

I've watched November a while ago and I think I remember it being 16x9.
Does anybody know if she used an anamorphic adapter or letterboxed? Or frame the action within a 16x9 space?
Can somebody point me toward the settings she used to film that movie?

It was not letterboxed.

It was Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1

I am fairly certain it was the Century

There is no Century anamorphic adapter for the DVX. They talked about producing one but never did.

IIRC, "November" was shot in full-screen 4:3 and cropped to 1.85.

So Barry, that means that the DP kept the action centered within a 16x9 frame during the shoot?

Yep. IIRC, they said they masked off the top and bottom of the LCD panel, leaving the central 16:9 visible.

Regarding the settings she used, I can't say that I've actually ever seen them posted. People elude to "that thread they can't find" but in all of the interviews I've read, she's always dodged the bullet on specific digits.

I could be wrong but I just haven't seen them.

The only specifics I remember (it wasn't a thread, it was an interview in American Cinematographer or someplace like that) were that she used the cinelike gamma, and detail level -7.

What video -- November? It's a feature film, it can't be posted, but you can find it at Netflix.

I hear ya HDV is nice but to really optimize HDV you really need to upgrade your computer to handle it. I just want to buy a 35mm lens in the near future.
