We have 600 Dvd's in a large DVD rack taking a wall 6'x6'. They are in alfa setup A, B, C etc... We have decided to remove all the Dvd's from their cases and put them into TWO 336 CD/DVD carrying case 12"x11"x4" making it much easier to move 4500 miles then having them in a number of large boxes due to the sizes of the Dvd cases. We plan on leaving them in the carrying case. Wife wants to put them in Drama, Action etc... instead of A, B, C making it much easier to find a movie that you are interested in watching if you were only in the mood to just watch a Western, Comedy etc...

Some of the films I'm not sure how they should be listed as Drama etc... does anyone know the best way to find out what listing they should be? Of course the Western, Sci-Fi and Comedy films are easy to figure out where they belong.

2 categories, good stuff and her stuff. Just kidding, like you say genre films are easy. Everything else is drama, arthouse or special interest.

eh, i digitized everything, and tossed all me dvds and IMDB fills in the info automatically. i use mythTV to watch and categorize everything. a IMDB script does it for me. Press a button, any movie instantly. DVD's are for old people

Have you thought of making a database with something like FileMaker Pro instead? That way, you can create searchable criteria of all kinds, and simply organize the DVDs in alphabetical order for easy location once you've figured out what you want.
