Setting Scratch Disk in FCP

Which drives do I assign as the scratch disk to get the best settings for optimal performance?

Specs:
Macbook Pro 2.4ghz
4gb Ram
500gb 7,200 rpm internal harddrive
External 500gb 7,200 rpm harddrive connected by firewire800

ahh okay.. I assumed having your scratch disk set to the internal for rendering would be quicker though.. that's why I bought 7,200 rpm internal harddrive for my laptop in the first place..

Buy an eSata controller for your MBP and be amazed how much faster it is.

but i'm wondering why it's bad to have your system hard drive to be scratch disk? wouldn't this be the fastest? I bought an internal 500gb hd just for the purpose of being used for FCP...

and where did you get your esata controller? and for how much?

You have the same HDD and the OS, media files, and Final Cut Pro competing for the platters at the same time.

That's a lot of moving around for video.
