Setting Mouse to Zoom

Wow, do I miss Sony Vegas. I'm just learning FCP and I'm finding it really clunky and slow but I'm stuck with it, so I'm trying to make the adjustment. There are two things I would like to be able to do in FCP but not sure if it's possible. 1 - I would like to set my magic mouse to be able to zoom in and out on the timeline. 2 - I would like to be able to double click on the timeline to get the cursor to a certain part of the track. I've googled both and can only find round about answers. Can anyone tell me how to do this or is it just impossible?

Not sure about the magic mouse shortcut (but command "+" will do that, FYI), but you don't need to double click on the timeline to move your scrub bar. Just click once in the gray area above the AV tracks with all the vertical time lines on it.

You can click on the Timecode ruler at the top to pop your playhead to any given spot. Cmd with plus and minus keys zoom in and out (Mac standard shortcut). You can get third party software to make custom assignable gestures on your Magic Mouse. I use the Magic Trackpad and can pinch to zoom in and out. Don't remember if Magic Mouse does pinch gestures. "Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro 7" is the best training around. Learn FCP, you'll like it. I've taught several Vegas users who love FCP now. All software is clunky when you don't know how to use it properly.

Thank you. I really hope I end up liking FCP. I want to. It's good to hear that Vegas users ended up liking FCP. I've been very worried about deciding on this program for work.
