setting knee

Ok, i'm shooting in 24p (F5) and i can't take the knee off auto. the word auto shows up in blue. Am i missing something?

Yeah, when you're using a certain setting (forget what one) the camera won't let you change other certain settings, and puts them in blue....I think it might have to do with the framerate or gamma settings, but I can't remember....

It's the gamma setting. Some of them don't have an adjustable knee.

Oh ok. Well i can shoot in 24p advanced and turn auto knee to high. I definitely don't want it changing on me in the middle shooting. Thnx

Sorry to sound like such an amateur, but what exactly is the knee? i was testing out certain features and settings last night on my camera and i didnt get to that one just yet. would anyone care to give me a quick explanation?

well it works like an audio compressor. If the lights too bright it automatically adjusts.

According to Barry, if you set the camera's gamma to "cinegamma" then you cannot adjust the knee. It is blued out like you said. In this setting the knee is not set to auto mode, but at the same time it cannot be changed to another setting. That's only for cinegamma mode.
