Setting for dampening the highlight blowout. (The video look).

It´s the highlight blowout on the HPX, that bothers me the most. When this happens in contrasty enviroments, it usually dont look good. The problem is, I think, the hard edge between the blowout and the not-blowout. It could also have something to do with the cheap lens and small sensor. (First gen small-sensir D-SLR's had the same look)

Question:
I have heard someone mentioning one setting in the HPX/HVX that dampens this effects. Something that makes it smoother. Is this true? Where is it? What´s it called?

If you're using any gamma other than the cine gammas, you can use the Knee to help smooth out the transitions. Try knee LOW and see what you think.

If you're using the cine gammas, you have to try to prevent blowouts whenever possible because yeah, they're gonna blow out ugly.

If you simply can't control the circumstances then you might try putting the DRS function on. DRS will automatically scan the frame and pull down any areas that are approaching blowout, and it'll raise up any darker areas. The downside is that the darker areas are raised by gain, so it'll selectively apply gain throughout your picture wherever it thinks you might want it, and that can make for a noisier picture. Also, things can get a tad funky when there's light right next to dark; it'll try to smooth the transition and that can make for some odd edge effects. I don't recommend someone to use DRS in the normal course of shooting, but only to enable it when they can't get the shot otherwise.
