I have to filming this week some scenes in low key lighting style. It’s first times that I work with HVX200 and we haven’t the times for true testing. Please, somebody can help me with one setting camera of base for low light.
Though not really reccomended, if you're really desparate you could always turn up the gain a little bit. Though of course, that's gonna bring some noise into your picture...
"If you're looking for the lowest-noise signal, the gamma curves are ranked here in terms of lowest-noise to most-noise:
B.PRESS, CINELIKE-V, LOW, HD NORM, SD NORM, NEWS, HIGH, and CINELIKE-D.
There's a lot more after that, and I'm assuming that if you have the camera, you've got the book. I don't want to infringe on Barry's copyright by quoting large sections of his book.
One thing I try to do in a low key situation is to have at least one or two highlights somewhere so it doesn't look so flat. (something that's lit properly, in other words) To me, this provides a reference for the rest of the image.
I recommend doing a quick search under the keyword "low light, lowlight" I did when I first got my cam and answered my questions in a couple mins of searching.
welll... but i suggest use the marker on if the 200 got it and till down 18 per cent you re fine unless you ll have to transfer it to 35 mm in that case stay around 35.
No light at all? change location.. or move the camera the other way round .
I'm just echoing what I read in Barry's book here, as the last shoot I did, I hadn't read it yet. Wish I had, for it was all low-light interiors!
Try starting with lower levels like -5 or 6. Noise has a lot of detail, like the hiss on an old magnetic tape. Less detail, less sharpness though.
You could almost compare this to a tone control on a stereo. You turn it so it's more bassy, and of course you're not going to get the crisp, clear highs as you did.
As you go higher on the detail level, detail coring begins to become useful.
Detail Coring is designed to suppress edge enhancement on noise. So if you go higher, then use Detail Coring. Check on a good monitor to see what you're getting when you set these.
See page 116, 117, 118 of Barry's book, section on "Optimizing for Low Video Noise" for this information.
