Set up two wireless lavaliers mics

Hi, I just got a hold of another pair of Sennheiser G2 wireless mic so I can shoot a two person interview with both people mic'd. First, is this possible with the DVX? My setup was usually one wireless mic. Now I'm dealing with two people. Since there are two XLR inputs, I figured it is possible.

Set the two lavs on different frequencies. I connected the two lavs to the camera and set one for channel 1 input 1 and the other channel 2 input 2, both inputs are set on mic on the front of the camera and the mic power is off on both inputs. I test it and I can see the levels go up on channel 1 and 2 when I test both mics individually. When I play it back, only the mic attached to input 1 is working.

I played around with the switches and can't seem to get both mics working.

thank you!

You just have to go slowly over the whole thing one lav at the time on different channels.

possible glitches: mic1 is feeding both channels. you have both on-cam mic and one mic-in connected and you are seeing the on-cam signal on the meters.

try this:

- one transmitter/reciever turned on, connected to Ch1, only ch1 meter should react to sound, ch2 must stay dead. Best to have the transmitter in another room (see below).

- same with Ch2 with the same reciever, ch1 must be dead.

If this is OK, repeat with the other transmitter/reciever pair.

place transmitters in separate rooms. This prevents the on-cam mic from hearing anything. Feed them different signals (radio/TV/cd...) and record some minutes.
You must have corresponding signals on Ch1 and Ch2 clearly separated.

Remember to use the same bank on both transmitters to avoid interference between frequences.

Thanks Petrus! I will try again tonight. I did try moving the receivers around in different rooms.

I should note my Senn G2s are different. One is (A / 518 - 554MHz) and the other is (C 740-776 MHz). When you say the transmitter units need to be on the same bank, do they need to be identical?

That second wireless system is not going to do you much good. The 700MHz band is (or is very soon to become) illegal to use for wireless mics.

The idea behind the bank thing is that the frequencies within a bank are chosen not to interfere with each other. If your sets work at totally different frequency ranges this does not apply to you of course. I naturally assumed your set are identical.

They will work at the same time of course perfectly well (more or less), regardless.
