GH2 Sescom audio cable

Hello all,

I want to plug a first generation Zoom H4 to my GH1/GH2 but I only find the Sescom cable with the pad attenuator for the H4N.
I know that from the 1st to 2nd gen Zooms something was done with the line inputs but I suppose everything else stays about the same, so...

Can I use the Seascom cable to connect my Zoom to GH1/GH2?

Thanks

Yup. I haven't tried it, but I'm sure it will work out fine. The Sescom cable plugs into the recorder's headphone output. This level isn't going to be dramatically different from the H4 to the H4n. You can adjust the headphone volume on the H4 to find the right level to go into the camera.

Thanks for the reply. I've just bought the cable from the internet. Yet... another question:

- Can the AGC on both GH1/GH2 be bypassed, or we just set the levels on the H4 headphone output and expect the best from the camera AGC?

You can't disable the AGC with the camera's settings on either the GH1 or the GH2. On the GH2 you can turn the audio input level down to 1, but the AGC is still active. You can disable the AGC using a different kind of Sescom cable (model name: DSLR-AGCY) and an MP3 player, but if you were to do this in addition to using the Sescom cable you just bought to connect a portable recorder to the camera, it would just be a bit too much. Cables all over the place... recorder mounted here, MP3 player mounted there... it would be rather cumbersome.

I've done a lot of shooting with the GH2, and I'm pretty satisfied with how the AGC behaves. Typically it's pretty quiet and unnoticeable. I can't say the same for the Canon 7D.

I created a tutorial for how to disable AGC using the Sescom DSLR-AGCY cable and an MP3 player. Here's the link:

I have a Juicedlink DS214, and videomic pro. The DS214 sends a constant tone to one channel to keep the camera from boosting the gain. The other channel records the signal from the (mono) mic. It works well.
